Post-Bariatric Body Lift
You Deserve It!
Have you recently lost a major amount of weight following bariatric surgery, but now feel frustrated with the loose, sagging skin that remains throughout your midsection or on your thighs, hips or buttocks? Or, perhaps the natural aging process has started to take its toll, leaving you with excess drooping skin in a similar area.
Major weight loss or the aging process can cause skin to lose its elasticity, leading to sagging skin. If this sounds familiar, you are not at fault! In fact, losing a substantial amount of weight after bariatric surgery is a significant accomplishment! Aging gracefully is yet another accomplishment, so do not let sagging skin detract from your achievements.
Instead, reward yourself with body lift surgery at Bulan Plastic Surgery in Northern New Jersey. You have worked hard to lose weight or age gracefully, and Dr. Erwin Bulan can help put the finishing aesthetic touches on your figure with body lift surgery. He can also combine body lift surgery with liposuction to enhance your surgical outcome even further.
What to Expect During Body Lift Surgery
It takes Dr. Bulan three to seven hours to perform body lift surgery, depending on the complexity of your situation. Prior to starting body lift surgery, Dr. Bulan administers general anesthesia so you are comfortable throughout the procedure. The specific body lift procedure varies from person to person, depending on each person’s body type and aesthetic goals.
In general, however, renowned cosmetic surgeon Dr. Bulan starts the procedure by creating an incision that extends from the upper and/or inner thigh to the waistline. If you case is very complex, Dr. Bulan may create an incision that extends completely around your waist and lower back. If you would like Dr. Bulan to lift your buttock and thigh area, you may require an incision in the crease of your buttocks. Dr. Bulan strategically places any needed incisions in inconspicuous areas, so any scars are not readily noticeable to others.
Once the appropriate incisions are made, Dr. Bulan removes excess skin. He then performs liposuction as needed to remove any unwanted fat deposits in the treated area. He pulls the remaining skin taut and closes any incisions with sutures.
What to Expect After Body Lift Surgery
Immediately after surgery, Dr. Bulan applies bandages to the treated area to provide support and minimize swelling. He often also places drainage tubes in the treated area to prevent fluid accumulation. Any tubes will be removed a few days after surgery at one of your follow-up appointments at Bulan Plastic Surgery. Stitches that have not dissolved on their own will also be removed at a follow-up appointment.
You should expect to take about one to two weeks off from work or your normal routine to recover from body lift surgery. Following the procedure, you should get plenty of rest and limit your movement to encourage proper healing. Dr. Bulan will let you know when you can resume your normal exercise routine. You can take oral pain relievers as advised by Dr. Bulan if you experience any pain during the initial recovery phase.
The actual recovery time varies for each patient, again depending on the complexity of the body lift procedure and the patient’s aesthetic goals for surgery. Complications are rare, but you can do your part to minimize any surgical risks by following Dr. Bulan’s pre- and post-operative instructions carefully.
