what to expect after your dermal filler treatment

Derml fillers are a non-invasive way to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes and mouth and achieve a younger, smoother, and more refreshed appearance. These popular injectables produce noticeable results with minimal downtime.

SPEEDY RECOVERY WITH MINIMAL DISCOMFORT

Recovery speed and comfort levels can vary from person to person and depend on the target area and the extent of the procedure. However, in general, dermal fillers require minimal downtime and just 24 to 48 hours of recovery. Arnica can be taken before the procedure in order to minimize the risk of bruising.

No general anesthesia is needed with dermal fillers, as the procedure is relatively pain-free, although some doctors may choose to use a local anesthetic or topical numbing cream at the injection site to make the procedure more comfortable.

In most cases, patients can get back to work and most of their usual activities right away. However, patients should avoid vigorous physical activity for 24 to 48 hours after their injections, as the fillers need time to settle. Patients should also avoid drinking alcohol during this time period.

FEW SIDE EFFECTS

Dermal fillers have been approved and deemed safe by the FDA, but some side effects may occur. These effects include swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, and bleeding at the injection site. Patients may also experience hypersensitivity or numbness.

Side effects are usually mild and clear up within a few days. To help with any discomfort, patients can take over-the-counter pain relievers or apply an ice pack intermittently to alleviate any swelling or tenderness.

Try not to rub or itch the treatment area for 24 to 48 hours after the procedure, and be sure to wear sunscreen.

In rare cases, an infection may occur. But if you are treated by a board-certified plastic surgeon, the risk of infection is very low.

IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENTS

Unlike other non-invasive procedures which can require multiple sessions, dermal fillers produce immediate results. The appearance of lines and wrinkles improves immediately, and patients can expect to see noticeably younger-looking skin after just one treatment. Results continue to improve as swelling and bruising subside.
