when to have your mommy makeover

shutterstock_232679125Are you a mother who feels like she barely has time to brush her teeth, let alone recover from surgery? If so, you’re not alone. Many mothers — especially of younger children —want to get back to their pre-baby body with a mommy makeover procedure, but wonder how to fit it into their busy schedule. The mommy makeover procedure is a customizable procedure that combines two or more surgeries — breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction and tummy tuck most often — to address the adverse aesthetic effects commonly caused by pregnancy. Since there are two or more surgeries involved, the recovery period is longer than for a single procedure (but you get the body shaping benefits of two or more surgeries with only one recovery period!)

In this post, Dr. Erwin Bulan of Bulan Plastic Surgery has some suggestions on how to plan your mommy makeover procedure so that you have time to recoup afterwards.

WHEN THE KIDS ARE BACK IN SCHOOL

It’s tough to relax, heal and focus on yourself when you have little ones running around and needing your attention. Having your mommy makeover when your kids are in school —even for part of the day — can allow you to sleep and take mental breaks for at least a few hours a day while recovering. Keep in mind that you will need some assistance for the first week after surgery, as you will have limited mobility and won’t be able to do household chores or lift your children.

WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD

The winter months are the perfect time for bundling your body into long-sleeved shirts and pants, bulky sweaters and coats —all of which are perfect ways to hide your body as it heals after surgery. And since you may have a little bit of extra time off of work during this time, planning surgery for this period is likely a convenient way to go. Plus, your husband or significant other might have some time off, and therefore may be more available to help with the children and meals.

WHEN YOUR KIDS ARE AT SUMMER CAMP

If your kids are a little older, they may be involved in summer activities like camp, where they are away from home for a week or more. What better time to focus on yourself than when your kids are out of the house and having fun? Plus, if you want to be fully recovered in time for the holiday season, then a summer mommy makeover procedure will afford you ample time to recover and be ready for some family time.
