your cosmetic options for lip enhancement

Full and vivacious lips are widely recognized as a sign of beauty and youth. If you have naturally thin lips or lips that have thinned over time, or if you are simply unhappy with the appearance of your lips, Dr. Erwin Bulan can help you with one of the many lip enhancement options he offers.

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal fillers are a popular choice for lip enhancement because they simultaneously enhance both the shape and size of lips without surgery or extensive downtime. When injected in areas around the mouth, dermal fillers can also soften the appearance of “smoker’s lines” or other wrinkles for a rejuvenated effect.

Dr. Bulan offers Juvederm XC and Juvederm Volbella for lip enhancement. Both fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that, when injected into the lips and other facial areas, boosts fullness and moisture in the skin. Juvederm XC is used to add fullness to the lips while Volbella provides a subtle boost in fullness and can soften vertical lip lines. Results with both fillers typically last up to a year.

FAT TRANSFER

For a longer-lasting option, consider a fat transfer procedure. Also known as fat grafting, fat transfer involves removing unwanted fat from one body area, like the abdomen or back, and carefully re-injecting it to strategic points on the lips. The result is a fuller and shapelier pout. Results with fat transfer typically last for years.

BOTOX

For some people, the shape and size of their lips are not the problem. Instead they are self-conscious about a “gummy smile,” which is sometimes caused by a hyperactive upper lip. Individuals with a hyperactive upper lip find that the upper lip raises excessively when smiling, revealing an excessive amount of gum tissue. To treat this problem, Dr. Bulan can inject small amounts of Botox in the upper lip and the skin just above it to temporarily relax the muscles responsible for lifting the lip. Once it takes effect, Botox prevents your upper lip from raising excessively, and your smile appears more harmonious and balanced. Because the effects of Botox typically last three to four months, repeat sessions are recommended to maintain results.

Depending on your unique case, a combination of fillers, fat transfer, Botox and/or other treatments may be used to achieve the best outcome.
