improving breast size and position in a single surgery

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if women could maintain shapely, perky breasts forever? Unfortunately, the breasts are vulnerable to a variety of factors, including aging, gravity, pregnancy, nursing, menopause and weight loss. All of these factors can cause the breasts to lose their youthful position and volume.

Dr. Erwin Bulan is the go-to plastic surgeon in Northern New Jersey for improving breast size and position. Here, he describes how he can help women bothered by their breasts look and feel beautiful.

UNDERSTANDING BREAST LIFT WITH IMPLANTS

Breast lift (or mastopexy) is designed to correct breast sagging and restore the breast mound to a perkier and more youthful position on the chest wall. It can also reposition the nipple-areolar complex higher on the breast. However, what breast lift won’t do is significantly change the size and volume of the breasts.

Breast augmentation is designed to add shape and volume to small breasts through the placement of implants. However, adding implants does not improve breast sagging or drooping. In fact, placing implants in sagging breasts can actually make the sagging look more pronounced.

For women bothered by breasts that have lost volume and sag after pregnancy and nursing (or simply the effects of aging or menopause), I often recommend a combination breast lift with implants. During this procedure, implants are placed to provide shape and volume; also, the breast tissue is rearranged higher on the chest and loose skin is removed in order to lift the breasts. The nipple-areolar complex is repositioned higher on the breast mound. The concern about additional scarring with breast lift surgery is shared by both patients and me.  From meticulous surgical techniques, cutting-edge scar therapy in the post op period, and possibly laser resurfacing to further erase all scars, we walk every patient through the healing process in order to get the most optimal result!

Combining breast lift with the placement of implants is preferable to be performed as one instead of two separate operations for several reasons. First, the patient only has to undergo anesthesia once instead of twice. And, the combination operation reduces expenses because patients only have to pay one facility fee and anesthesiologist’s fee. Also, patients can take less time off from work than if they had to undergo two separate operations.
