the top 5 most popular plastic surgery procedures of 2014
Earlier this month, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons — a prestigious organization to which Dr. Erwin Bulan belongs — released their annual plastic surgery procedural statistics. According to ASPS, more than 15.6 million cosmetic procedures were performed last year, reflecting an overall 3 percent increase from 2013.
Here, Dr. Bulan discusses the top five plastic surgery procedures performed last year, in order from the fifth most requested procedure to the most requested procedure.
#5 – FACELIFT
With the number of Baby Boomers desiring facial rejuvenation, it’s no surprise that facelift is among the top five plastic surgery procedures performed last year (approximately 128,000 procedures). Facelift is the most comprehensive solution available to combat the natural aging process, gravity and exposure to harmful elements.
#4 – EYELID SURGERY
Eyelid surgery is can be an effective way to treat eyes that look tired, sad or angry. In 2014, more than 206,000 people opted for upper and/or lower eyelid surgery, and can now enjoy waking up and looking rested, revitalized and more youthful.
#3 – LIPOSUCTION
Liposuction procedures increased in popularity by 5 percent in 2014. More than 210,000 plastic surgery patients had liposuction to surgically remove stubborn areas of excess fat and improve the appearance of disproportionately large “problem areas.â€
#2 – RHINOPLASTY
More than 217,000 men and women enjoyed the transformative effects of nose reshaping surgery in 2014. In addition to improving the balance between the facial features, rhinoplasty can also enhance breathing function by correcting structural deformities (e.g., deviated septum) within the nose.
#1 – BREAST AUGMENTATION
An enormous number of women had their breasts enhanced with saline or silicone implants last year, In fact, more than 286,000 breast augmentation procedures were performed in 2014. Surprisingly, the collective number of procedures actually dropped by 1 percent from 2013 (perhaps more women are opting for natural breast enhancement with fat transfer).
MOST POPULAR NON-SURGICAL PROCEDURES
Non-surgical cosmetic enhancement procedures also saw an incredible surge in popularity (more than 13.9 million procedures were performed). The most popular minimally invasive procedures included Botox and dermal filler injections, chemical peel, laser hair removal and microdermabrasion.
